Snowmobiling at Eagle River

Winter in Wisconsin is heaven for snowmobilers—over 25,000 miles of interconnected trails crisscross the state. Repurposed railroads are now snowmobile “highways.” Local snowmobile clubs regularly groom trails into their pristine states, and thousands of tourists come every year to get snowmobile rentals and ride the trails for themselves. One of the most popular snowmobiling locations in Wisconsin is Eagle River, also called the “Snowmobile Capital of the World.”

Eagle River’s extensive trail system includes over 500 miles of carefully groomed trails that cover two counties and crosses hills, valleys, and even frozen lakes. You’ll be able to explore for days with your snowmobile rental without crossing the same ground twice! All the trails are clearly marked, and even beginners will enjoy exploring Wisconsin’s winter wonderland. Eagle River is consistently ranked as the best snowmobiling vacation destination in the world by Snowgoer Magazine, and you’re bound to enjoy the combination of well-kept trails and breathtaking scenery.

While you’re near Eagle River, don’t miss the town’s most stunning feature: the Ice Palace. This seasonal attraction is rebuilt every year from nearly 3,000 ice bricks, cut from a local Wisconsin lake and hauled to Eagle River. Since the 1920s, volunteers and firefighters have been working together to build this impressive edifice, which is then lit with colored spotlights. The Ice Palace is different every year, and it’s a popular attraction for both locals and visitors—some people have even gotten married at the Ice Palace!
